Amankila, one of Aman Group’s foundational properties, offers a serene escape with a keen sense of service
Overcrowded, overtourism, and overrated – the three O’s I often hear from those describing Bali, Indonesia. While Bali isn’t the first place I’d suggest for a serene retreat, Amankila, while not the most modern property in Bali, still deserves a spot on the roster.
As I mentioned in my Amanjiwo write-up, the transportation from Denpasar Airport was seamless. An Aman airport representative greeted us and guided us through the hectic airport to our spacious SUV that awaited us.
On arrival, we were greeted by the GM, complete with a delicious ice cream ginger beer, who also remarked that my birthday was coming up (it’s these little details that keep me coming back to the Aman resorts).
Rooms & Grounds

Yes, there are many more modern resorts in Bali. This property was constructed in 1992, so modern it is not. In my humble opinion, the grounds are still stunning. The main pool is tiered with multiple bales to choose from with an additional pool closer to the private beach. With so many beautiful areas to swim, I did not feel like I missed out with our non-pool room suite.
Disclaimer, there are oil tankers in view from the hotel. For me, this did not interfere with my experience.

Note to beach lovers – do not expect white sand beaches. The beach is a private, black sand beach complete with private bales. There were lifejackets and boogie boards available for use. We noted that there were quite a few hotel staff cleaning up the beach throughout the day.

The grounds allowed us to complete disconnect and relax into the beautiful background. Stay tuned for Part II of our Amankila journey…
